We're excited to welcome Barnsley's first Carers Roadshow to our town centre, helping our borough's carers get the support they need

Message from Wendy Lowder, Executive Director for Place Health and Adult Social Care

Carers are the unsung heroes in our society. They play a vital role in our communities by looking after their loved ones, often sacrificing their own needs and wellbeing. Yet, they can often go unnoticed and unsupported, which is why we want to be ambitious in our plans to make sure they get all the help they need and are recognised for all their hard work.

I’m really excited that we’re bringing Barnsley’s first-ever Carers Roadshow to the heart of our town centre on Friday 9 June during Carers Week.

The Carers Roadshow is a fantastic initiative that aims to provide much-needed support and recognition to carers in our communities. Taking place in Barnsley Market, this event will be a great opportunity for carers to come together and share their experiences while learning more about the vital support available to them in their local area.

The Carers Roadshow concept was developed in Nottingham by Trevor Clower, who has first-hand experience being an unpaid carer himself. For the past nine years, he has been working tirelessly to raise awareness of carers and develop a sustainable model for supporting unpaid carers in his local area.

Our Carers Roadshow has been organised through collaborative working at its best, driven forward by Trevor and colleagues in Primary Care, NHS England and Adult Social Care. Organisations and charities working across Barnsley, from social care to community groups, will be on hand on the day to create a dynamic roadshow, the first of its kind in Yorkshire.

At the heart of our plans is making sure our caring community gets the right information, advice and support. The roadshow will help unpaid carers learn more about the support available locally for themselves and the people they care for, helping everyone in our communities to live happy, healthy lives.

We’re also excited to celebrate our caring community at our Carers Roadshow and hear about their experiences in their caring roles, helping to shape our support for the future.

This event promises to be an informative and engaging day for everyone, with a range of organisations and charities providing information, advice and support for carers of all ages.

We should all take the time to appreciate the incredible work carers do and support them in any way we can. By attending events like the Carers Roadshow, we can help make a real difference in the lives of those who devote so much of their time to caring for others.

We look forward to welcoming everyone on the day!
