One of the most respected and highest-ranked youth choirs in the world has officially become a partner in the Barnsley Music Education Hub which works to bring music-making opportunities to children right across Barnsley.
The award-winning Barnsley Youth Choir now has more than 400 members aged ranging from the age of four to 24. They’re now third in the world rankings for choirs in their category, having built an incredible international reputation and scoring many victories in competitions on the world stage.
BYC have always offered the highest quality of choral opportunities for Barnsley’s young people with a strong focus on professional-standard vocal tuition and rehearsal. BYC now caters for a huge age range with a network of progressive choirs based both centrally and in the East and West of our borough.
Now the choir and its leaders will work even closer with Barnsley Music Education Hub to provide the best access to high quality singing experiences for children of all ages and all backgrounds.
The Hub is led by Barnsley Music Service, which is part of Barnsley Council and based at The Civic and includes a broad range of organisations and music professionals.
Cllr Tim Cheetham, Barnsley Council’s Cabinet spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture) said: “We hope to work together even more closely in these challenging times to support young singers, signpost and share outstanding opportunities and further develop singing in and out of school.
“The incredible world-renowned BYC will further strengthen the breadth of our Music Hub offer and build upon the strong reputation and history Barnsley has for music education.”
Mat Wright MBE, Artistic Director, Barnsley Youth Choir, said: “It is a privilege to have an opportunity to strengthen our links with local music partners.
“The Barnsley Music Hub is involved in such important work, and whilst BYC has always sought to support local music provision, we hope that this formal relationship will provide further exciting opportunities for young people in our town.”
