People in Barnsley are being encouraged to show they love where they live by taking part in volunteering month which is set to begin on Friday 1 June.
The annual event, led by Love Where You Live Barnsley, will tie in with national volunteers’ week and gives people the chance to get out in their community and take part in a range of events.
This year’s events will showcase a range of opportunity’s across the borough, from healthy living activities, allotment planting and helping those who may be lonely or isolated in the community.
Volunteering is a great way to get involved, get healthy and meet new people where you live.
Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: “We have some amazing volunteers in Barnsley and we are extremely grateful for the work they do. Volunteering month is a fantastic time to celebrate our volunteers and say thank you but also invite new volunteers to take part in activities near to them. I’d like to encourage everyone to take part in whatever way they can whether that’s giving a full day or a few hours of their time.”
Volunteering events will be promoted on the Love Where You Live Facebook and Twitter @LWYLBarnsley. People can also view events through their Area Team social media pages and at Barnsley.gov.uk
