Community alarms

Having a community alarm from our Independent Living at Home Service makes it quick and easy to get help.

If you have an accident or emergency in your home, all you have to do to get help is press a button. Knowing help is at hand puts your mind at rest. It makes you feel safe and helps you live independently.

How a community alarm works

The alarm is a pendant that you can wear on your wrist, around your neck, or just keep close to you.

If you need help, you can trigger the alarm by pressing the call button. This will put you through to our 24 hour monitoring centre. When your alarm goes off, we'll call you to check what's wrong and what support you need. 

If you don't answer our call, we'll contact your next of kin and ask them to check on you.  If we can't contact your relatives, or you don't have a next of kin, we'll come out to check you're safe. In urgent situations, we'll also call the emergency services on your behalf.

Remote monitors

In addition to the alarm and pendant, we offer a range of remote monitors that automatically raise an alert if you're at risk in your home.

The monitors can alert us to fire, carbon monoxide, extreme changes in temperature, or if you have a fall in your home. Packages are also available for people who suffer from memory loss.

Help via your own mobile phone

You can also receive our monitoring service via your own mobile phone, either as an add-on to Telecare or we can set up a speed dial on your mobile phone. This will connect you to our monitoring centre, where someone can support you. You'll have peace of mind, knowing you can contact someone if you need help, either at home or when you're out and about.

How to apply

You don't need to qualify for any social care or support services to be able to have a Telecare alarm. Just call us on  (01226) 775671. 

How much it costs

Telecare costs between £2.89 and £4.29 a week for one person. Call (01226) 775671 for more information or for a free trial.

The packages available include:

  • safe and secure - £3.79 a week
  • medication reminder/Lifeline - £4.29 a week
  • falls detection - £4.29 a week
  • cognitive decline/memory loss - £4.29 a week

There's a small additional charge for some devices depending on your circumstances. We'll advise you how much your individual package will cost when you get in touch with us.
