This course is for anyone interested in learning BSL for personal, professional or social reasons, whether you're hearing impaired or not.
See our course listing for British Sign Language for details of the days, times, locations and fees for these courses.
Length of course
36 weeks, two hours a week
There are three units, with exams taken at the end of the course.
You'll consolidate what you've learned previously as well as learning new signs. The main emphasis, however, is on increased fluency, accuracy, and communication skills.
- 201 BSL receptive skills
- 202 BSL productive skills
- 203 BSL conversational skills
You should already have completed Signature Level One and OCN Level Two in BSL or have reached a similar standard through working with deaf people.
If you're under 24, or receive certain benefits, you may be entitled to a fee reduction or remission. See our information about paying for a course for details.
How to apply
Give us a call, come to one of our enrolment sessions during September, or watch out for our taster courses which take place across the borough and are advertised throughout the year.
What you can do next
You could continue with your learning of BSL with a Level 3 course with another provider, such as Doncaster College for the Deaf.
Our Sign Language pathway leads to qualification that can be used by learners who wish to become interpreters or work in a supportive role in schools or social services.
