Adult Skills and Community Learning

This course is perfect if you want an introductory course to working in a health and social care role and are not yet ready to start a full qualification.

It will give you a good understanding of what working in social care is all about and whether it is the right career for you.  You'll find out about the range of settings you might choose to work in and how to work towards a job in the sector. 

The course will cover human lifespan development, the 6 C’s of care and how to take a person centred approach.

Course details

This course is delivered in three ways:

Classroom based

  • 5 weeks of 3 hours a week, plus minor homework tasks at home.

Online delivery

  • 5 weeks.  1 x 1.5 hour online session plus individual tutor interactions
  • 60  - 120 minutes of homework tasks to be completed each week
  • Individual tutor interactions as needed

Distance learning

  • Individual workbooks and tasks posted each week with telephone/ text/ email support from a tutor.

What do you need?

  • You will need a notepad and pen and access to a phone for all courses

  • For classroom based courses you will also need access to email and the internet

  • For online courses, you will need a device which has a webcam and sound and is able to access the following apps: Edmodo, Cisco Webex and Kahoot
