Adult Skills and Community Learning

This qualification is designed specifically for learners who want to build on their existing experience and basic knowledge and improve their understanding of computer applications. 

It'll give you a benchmark qualification in using a computer and help you develop your IT skills and enhance your career prospects. 

The course is also aimed at learners who have completed a Level 1 qualification and want to further develop their computer skills.

Length of course

2.5 hours per week for 30 weeks

Course content

To achieve the qualification, you'll need to complete four modules:

  • word processing
  • spreadsheet software
  • presentation software
  • improving productivity using IT

On completion of the qualification you'll receive an ECDL Extra Certificate which is a full Level 2 qualification.

Entry requirements

The course is a natural progression from a Level 1 IT qualification or for learners with existing IT skills.

Course fees

The cost of the course is £262.46 which includes all tuition, materials, and registration fees with the Awarding Body.

How to apply

You'll need to book a pre-course assessment before you can start the course, to make sure you have the necessary entry skills to complete the course within the allocated time.

At the appointment you'll be able to discuss your needs with one of our tutors and will also complete a short IT skills assessment. Assessments take place at Wellington House in Barnsley town centre and last about 45 minutes.

Many learners continue with higher level qualifications, including the Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Advanced) (ITQ) (QCF) Level 3.
