Adult Skills and Community Learning

This course is a fast track qualification designed for learners who want to build on their existing experience and basic knowledge to improve their understanding of computer applications and improve their IT skills. It's a good step towards further education or employment and allows you to achieve a Level 1 qualification in 8 weeks.

Length of course

6.75 hours a week for 8 weeks (5.75 hours alternate weeks)

Course content

To achieve the Certificate (13 credits) you'll need to complete the following modules:

  • improving productivity using IT (3 credits)
  • word processing (3 credits)
  • spreadsheet software (3 credits)
  • presentation software (3 credits)
  • using the internet (1 credit)

Entry requirements

The course is a natural progression from an entry level IT qualification or for learners with existing IT skills. A basic understanding of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications would be an advantage.

Course fees

The cost of the course is £205.82 which includes all tuition, materials, and registration fees with the Awarding Body.

Many learners continue with higher level qualifications, including the Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Extra) (ITQ) (QCF) Level 2.
