If you wish to develop your skills in business admin, along with more generic job skills.  Then our business admin course could be for you. It will support your personal growth and progression into further learning or into work. There are many jobs that require business admin skills.  Our course will support you to gin these skills and your move into employment. The course will equip you with the skills that employers in Barnsley are asking for. This could be the first step on your journey into a career in business admin. Our business admin course is delivered in a supportive and friendly place, by our team of tutors.  

Course content

The course will help you develop your knowledge of working in a business admin role. The course will equip you with knowledge and skills specific to this sector.  Alongside a range of standard job skills. This course is accredited and following a successful assessment you will achieve the
entry level 3 certificate in vocational studies (gateway)

This course will enable you to:

  • Build Microsoft App skills and a focus on embedding a working knowledge of file management

Assessment 

Assessment is portfolio based with evidence to support skills and knowledge. There are 5 modules in total. These are:

  • Working in Business and Admin.  Gain knowledge of the different job roles.  Recognise duties, and identify key skills and knowledge that are required within business admin
  • Time Management. Focuses on being organised, Along with the importance of managing time
  • Creating Business Documents.  Looking at different types of business documents and use these to communicate
  • Dealing with Queries and Requests. Know the services and products of a section/department and be able to handle queries and requests
  • Correct Behaviour in an Office. Be able to converse well, follow instructions. Know about policies in the workplace such as security and privacy and health and safety

You'll also develop the following skills for work:

  • Work as part of a team, sharing ideas and motivate peers to complete a task
  • Have a positive attitude to plan your own work and complete it correctly within a timeframe
  • Be a good listener and follow instructions 
  • Be resilient and have the ability to stick with a task, even if things don’t go to plan. Learn from setbacks
  • Literacy and numeracy skills will be supported throughout the course

Course delivery

  • 2.5 days per week for 9 weeks
  • Face to face in classroom setting

Expectations and support 

  • To complete a minimum of 30 minutes of tasks after each session
  • Peer support to/from other learners in the class using Teams.  An online tool where you will access resources, take part in discussions, and submit work when needed
  • Tutor support via Teams messaging

What do you need?

  • A mobile phone to verify the Office 365 account
  • Access to a laptop, desktop or similar to complete your work. You don't need Microsoft Office before the start of the course.  You'll be given full access to an Office 365 account at the first session. A Chromebook will not support you on this course as it does not allow offline access to Office 365
  • Folder, paper or notebook and pen
  • To attend all sessions

Entry requirements

You'll have already completed the following with Adult Skills and Community Learning:

  • Advice and Guidance and initial assessment on the BKSB Software

The level that you study will be determined by your initial assessment results. 

Course fees

The fee for this course is £221.10. Fees include all course resources and admin costs. Fee remission is available for learners in receipt of means tested benefits, or low income.  Please contact us for more details.
