This course is for learners who want a qualification to work in a school environment with pupils.
Length of course
3.5 hours a week, plus 1 day a week on a placement, for 1 year
The course is designed to provide learners with an advanced understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including:
- children and young people's development
- supporting children and young people's positive behaviour
- communication and professional relationships
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but you'll need to be at least 19 years of age and have a good standard of English.
Work in a real work environment
You'll need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement in a school, as you'll need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
The cost of the course is £715.
If you're under 24 and don't have a full level 2 qualification, or you receive certain benefits, you may get fee reduction or remission.

How to apply
You'll need to book an appointment to attend an information session with a tutor before you can start the course, to make sure it's the right one for you.
Sessions take place at Wellington House in Barnsley town centre and last about 30 minutes.
