Council Tax bands and charges

Your Council Tax band

Your property is banded into one of eight valuation bands (A to H). This determines the amount of Council Tax you have to pay.

We don't decide the band your property is in - it's set by the government's Valuation Office Agency.

You can challenge the Valuation Office Agency decision if you think your home is in the wrong band.

Council Tax charges

Council Tax charges are set each year and we send you a bill every March.

These are the charges that have been set for the period 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 for each of the valuation bands:

A- A B C D E F G H
£1181.54 £1417.85 £1654.15 £1890.46 £2126.77 £2599.39 £3072.00 £3544.62 £4253.54

For comparison, these are our Council Tax charges for previous years.

Parish council charges

Parish councils are separate legal bodies, responsible for their own finances. They receive their funding by adding an annual charge, called a precept, to your Council Tax bill.

The precept covers any targeted spending in your parish. It also contributes towards the cost of policing, passenger transport, pensions and fire and civil defence in the borough.

If you live in an area that has a parish council, your Council Tax will vary. It will depend on the precept added for your area.

You can see the charges that have been set for your parish for the period 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 below. If you have any queries around your precept charge, contact your parish council directly.
