We’re making good progress with our town centre redevelopment plans.
The outdoor market has already been moved into the shopping precinct. This will allow us to safely demolish central offices and begin works to strengthen the outdoor market area to create a new town centre square.
We’ll be building new stalls in late summer, which traders will move to in November, ready for the busy Christmas trading period.
The temporary open market is made up of 40 fixed stalls along Cheapside, May Day Green, Queen Street and Peel Square.
The majority of outdoor market traders are supportive of the move and see it as a positive step to help them maintain their businesses and survival rates throughout the development period.
