Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions we expect constraints to be in place for public gatherings at funerals for an extended period of time, which could be several months.
The number of people currently allowed to attend a burial or cremation service is restricted to a maximum of 30 people. We have 24 seats in the main chapel and another six in the overspill room. We ask people to keep attendance to immediate family and very close friends only.
Linked religious, belief-based or commemorative events, such as stone settings and ash scatterings can continue with up to six people in attendance.
Anyone working is not counted in these limits. Social distancing should be maintained between people who do not live together or share a support bubble.
We understand that the current stipulations will have an impact on the final farewell for your loved one and we offer our deepest condolences at this difficult time. The measures remain in place to protect families and staff, as well as yourselves.
Anyone wishing to delay a funeral until the lifting of such restrictions is advised that the wait could be for several months.
Changes at the crematorium
Attending a funeral
Along with adhering to social distancing, the crematorium staff are cleaning the chapel area between services. The use of hymn books and service sheets is suspended, along with family collections.
Hand sanitiser is available and we ask people to use this as they enter the crematorium.
Visiting the grounds
The crematorium grounds are open for you to visit. Please note the flower/book room remains closed.
The gates will also be locked in the evening at 7pm, including Bank Holidays and at weekends until further notice.
The reception desk at the crematorium is currently closed to protect staff and members of the public by reducing non-essential contacts.
Funerals are unaffected by this closure, but we'll currently be unable to deal with any in-person enquiries about genealogy, ordering plaques and scattering or burial of ashes at the crematorium.
You can still contact us either by:
- emailing Bereavement Services
- calling (01226) 206053. Lines are open 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.30pm Fridays (excluding bank holidays)
