Business Parks

Barnsley Council continues to explore a range of ways to achieve a thriving and vibrant economy. Our new business park projects are helping to attract new businesses to the borough, and retain and support existing business.

A number of high-profile private sector organisations have already relocated to Barnsley over the last few years. More are committing as a result of continued work, including investment in the new town centre. This all helps to create more and better jobs in the area.

Property Investment Fund

Barnsley Council’s Property Investment Fund enables partnership working with developers to construct new commercial premises. It was a flagship initiative identified in the Barnsley Jobs and Business Plan that launched in 2014. The plan set out a commercially-focused blueprint for creating more jobs and more businesses in the borough.

Strategic business parks

Working alongside commercial property developers, the council has created two new business park developments to date, in the vicinity of M1 J36. These provide 230,000 ft² of new commercial property, creating 298 jobs in the borough.
