Between us, we have a breadth of knowledge and specialist expertise to help you meet the needs of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

The team includes:

  • a Strategy and Service Manager
  • a Senior Advisory Teacher
  • a Senior Habilitation Officer
  • seven full-time equivalent Advisory Teachers
  • an Early Years Area SENCO
  • an Early Years Worker
  • two full-time equivalent Support Workers 

Toni Harvey
(Senior Advisory Teacher)

Interest areas: supporting children and young people with social and communication and interaction needs including children and young people who have features of or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Specialist interests: the use of social stories and how children with autism develop play skills.

Holly Wallace
(Senior Habilitation Officer - vision support)

Interest areas: supporting children and young people with a diagnosed visual impairments from birth to developing the independence of children and young people with visual impairments to years.

Special interests: accessing a range of environments and activities to enable independence. Developing age appropriate mobility and orientation skills using a range of multi-sensory approaches. Daily living activities to enable children and young people to thrive in their independent lives. Developing links with external agencies for the benefit of the children and young people.

Emma Brooke
(Specialist Advisory Teacher - vision support)

Interest areas: working with children and young people with visual impairment from birth. Special interest in teaching braille and tactile learning resources.

Louise O’Rourke
(Specialist Advisory Teacher - vision support)

Interest areas: cerebral visual impairment; visual stimulation techniques; supporting blind and visually impaired young people to fully access life within their communities; developing links between our service and specialist sports providers.

Andrea Eaton
(Specialist Advisory Teacher - social communication and interaction)

Interest areas: supporting children and young people with social communication and interaction difficulties, including children and young people who have features of or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Specialist interests: identifying and supporting girls on the Autism Spectrum, pupils with sensory integration needs and pupils who use alternative methods of communication, for example Makaton and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).

Louise Stringer
(Specialist Advisory Teacher - social communication and interaction)

Interest areas: (SCI) social communication interaction needs; supporting children and young people who have features of and/or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum. Specialist interest in the use of Lego therapy as a social skills support. (SEN) special educational needs, generalised and systemic support to settings with regard to practices in relation to SEND.

Lora Wilmott
(Specialist Advisory Teacher - social communication and interaction)

Interest areas: supporting children and young people with social communication and interaction difficulties, including those who have features of, or a diagnosis of, Autism Spectrum Disorder. 
Specialist interests: supporting the early identification of social, communication and interaction needs in settings and equipping staff so that they are able to confidently support pupil needs. Working with pupils who use alternative methods of communication e.g. Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).

John Barron
(Specialist Advisory Teacher - hearing support)

Interest areas: working with children and young people with hearing loss from 2 years of age in homes, preschool settings, schools and colleges. Particular interests include: audiology, working with the primary age range, literacy, memory and auditory memory.

Becky Cook

Interest areas: working with children and young people with hearing loss from 2 years of age in homes, preschool settings, schools and colleges.

Leanne Allen
(Specialist Advisory Teacher - hearing support)

Interest areas: supporting children and young people with hearing impairment needs. Undertaking the mandatory Teacher of Deaf qualification at Leeds University (MA).

Julie Thompson
(Early Years Area SENDCO)

Interest area: supporting children with a special educational need in the Early Years. Special interest in supporting SENCO’s within Early Years settings.

Sheradene Faver
(Portage Practitioner)

Interest areas: supporting families and children with special educational needs. Special interest in supporting children with complex needs.

Lucy Shea
(Specialist Support Worker - social communication and interaction)

Interest areas: supporting children and young people who have features of or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Special interests: identifying and supporting children within the Early Years to support early identification and early intervention.

Gemma Whitfield
(Specialist Support Worker - social communication and interaction)

Interest areas: supporting children and young people who have features of or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, girls on the Autism Spectrum and pupils in the Early Years. Specialist interest in supporting pupils who use alternative methods of communication e.g. Makaton and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).

Mel Booth
(Specialist Support Worker - social communication and interaction)

Interest areas: supporting children and young people who have features or a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder with children and young people across the age range. With a wealth of hands on experience having worked across the age range from pre-school to post 16.

Special interests are around the development of training and up-skilling of parents and professionals either in settings or in formal training setting.
