Jobs

Welcome

It’s exciting times at Barnsley, with the £200 million Glassworks development now fully operational and the recent acquisition of the Alhambra shopping centre. We're about to deliver our 'Health on the High Street' ambitions. Barnsley really is 'a place of possibilities'.

Our diverse land and property assets are a key enabler of service delivery and regeneration. The asset portfolio is crucial for the us to achieve our ambitions for now and for the future.

This includes our beautiful heritage and cultural venues and spaces such as Cannon Hall, Worsbrough Mill and Elsecar Heritage Centre, our iconic art-deco Town Hall and Civic Centre, Grade A office accommodation at locations like Westgate Plaza and Gateway plaza, children’s homes, green spaces and allotments, parks, and reservoirs.

With a land and property portfolio of 2,500 assets and a book value of £300 million pounds we’re looking for a dynamic group leader to join our property team. You should be able to provide strong and dynamic leadership to a team of experienced property professionals and deliver on our strategic property ambitions and existing statutory duties.

As a strategic thinker who has the ability to translate vision into practice, you'll look to build on existing successes whilst bringing their own ideas and style. As an RICS qualified surveyor with ability to participate in the RICS registered valuation scheme you should be able to demonstrate a broad experience and understanding of land and property transactional work. You should also see property as an enabler of all our work to deliver homes, jobs and inclusive economic growth for all our residents and help create strong and sustainable communities.

Although previous local government experience, in a similar role, would be advantageous its not essential. we'd encourage someone with a private sector background to consider the position too. We're looking for someone with strong commercial acumen who understands how our property portfolio can be managed and leveraged to create economic, social and cultural value for the borough.

If you'd like to find out more, or to discuss the role in more detail don’t hesitate to contact Lindsay Johnson, our head of property at lindsayjohnson@barnsley.gov.uk.

Barnsley’s vision and ambition for 2030

The vision for Barnsley Council is Barnsley - the place of possibilities. This builds on our past which has influenced the fabric of the borough and experiences of many Barnsley residents. It also builds on the borough’s success over recent years.

By 2030 we want everyone to benefit from, and contribute to, making our borough a thriving place of possibilities.

Everyone has an important role in working together to make our ambitions for the borough possible. This in turn will improve the lives of residents. This includes our residents and groups across the private, public, voluntary and community sectors all working together.

Barnsley’s already a great place, and we want to do more. This vision drives our Council Plan, demonstrating our commitment to making it happen. We’ll concentrate on providing services where they’re most needed and will have the most impact. We’ll also help people to do more for each other and their community.

We’re committed to developing skills, talent and creativity among people of all ages. We're also creating exciting prospects and meeting the demands of the future economy. This all makes Barnsley a better place to be.

At the heart of all of this is the proud people of Barnsley. It’s about celebrating and championing what makes our borough special. We want to inspire others and work together to make an even better Barnsley.
