Lieutenancy of South Yorkshire

Hosting the ceremonies

Citizenship Ceremonies are held at local South Yorkshire authority buildings in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield regularly throughout the year.

The Lieutenancy assists the Lord Mayors of Sheffield and Rotherham in hosting the ceremonies on a rotational basis. They represent Her Majesty The Queen in welcoming the new British citizens and presenting them with a Naturalisation Certificate.

Everyone who applies for British citizenship is required to take an oath or affirmation of allegiance to the Crown, and make a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom.

Afterwards, the new British citizens are encouraged to speak to the representative present and have their photographs taken.
