Vice Lord-Lieutenant

John Holt was appointed Vice Lord-Lieutenant on 1 November 2016.

His academic qualifications are LLB FCIArb and Accredited Mediator.

Mr Holt practised until his retirement as an insurance lawyer, specialising in catastrophic injury claims, trusteeship and alternative dispute resolution.

He is the former Chair, now Ambassador, for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

He was appointed as Deputy Lieutenant of South Yorkshire in 2009. He served as High Sheriff of South Yorkshire from 2015 to 2016.

His other roles include:

  • Volunteer Chair of CrimeStoppers for South Yorkshire
  • a committee member of South Yorkshire Muslim Community Forum
  • a Trustee of South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation
  • Vice-Chair of Unit Management Team, Sheffield Sea Cadets

John's passions are Portugal, skiing and music, as well as cycling, stone carving and metal sculpture.
