We’re making a commitment to improve our engagement with communities by helping people to get involved, to do more for each other and their local area. We’ll be working with communities to create this new approach, which is set out in the Community Engagement Strategy.
The starting point is to make clear exactly what the council offers and set out what support is needed from people living and working in Barnsley. This will be called the ‘Barnsley Deal’.
Supported by the Love Where You Live campaign, more than 3,500 volunteers have stepped forward to support their communities in different ways, and the work of all of our communities was recognised in March 2017 when Barnsley won the Local Government Chronicle Award for Community Involvement.
We know, through our residents’ survey, that 20% of residents would like to get involved in their local community and to improve their neighbourhood, so we’ll continue to make it easy for people to contribute in whatever way they can – everyone living, working or delivering a business in Barnsley is encouraged to get involved.
