Learning at museums
Having five museum sites across Barnsley means that we can give children and adults special opportunities to discover and learn new things.
Barnsley Museums Learning offers a wide range of workshops for primary school and SEN school groups which support learning across the curriculum, including local history, art, science, English, design and technology.
Pupils develop their skills through a range of activities, including handling, drawing, writing, observation, discussion and immersive experiences.
We want children to get to know the local museums on their doorstep and to feel inspired by what they find. Young people tell us that they like museum visits because they help to improve their relationships with their classmates and teachers, giving them the chance to get to know each other better in a unique environment.
Our programme is work in progress and we want to provide an excellent service which really meets the ongoing, changing needs of schools, teachers and pupils.
Our family and adult education continues all year round with a whole host of workshops, activities, outdoor learning, adult baking classes, poetry sessions, gallery tours and talks, and much more.
