COVID-19 (coronavirus) service update
From Monday 15 June 2020 non-essential retail was allowed to return to work. You must not reopen if your business is closed under current government rules. Find out whether your business venue can open or read the GOV.UK steps to working safely.
You can access training and free downloadable posters to use in your place of work, to keep your customers and workers safe. The site will be updated with street signage, bunting and advertising across the borough reminding people to keep social distancing and stay safe while using your businesses.
About the project
Principal Towns is a £5 million investment project set up to improve local economies around the borough and help our high streets thrive.
We’re working with local businesses, community groups and residents to deliver projects focused on showcasing the best Barnsley has to offer; improving the vibrancy of key locations to spread the benefits of economic regeneration far and wide.
The funding's being used to set in place the long-term strategic visions for the main shopping centres, with master plan suggested improvements if future funding becomes available.
Works funded by the project will include:
- car parking improvements;
- new signage;
- shopfront investments;
- public space improvements;
- other ideas to meet local need.
By encouraging footfall and improving the visiting experience, the project aims to promote private sector investment and other funding streams to create new opportunities for businesses.
