Barnsley Local Plan Examination

Barnsley’s Local Plan was submitted to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on 23 December 2016. It is being examined by an independent Inspector.

The Examination Timetable

The examination to determine whether the plan is sound will be conducted by Inspector Sarah Housden BA (Hons) MRTPI.

As of 10am Monday 29 January 2018, a consultation for the Local Plan Examination is taking place. It will be open for six weeks from this date until it closes at 10am on Monday 12 March. All relevant consultation documents can be found under Stage 4 documents. Please consult the Stage 4 Briefing Note (ID029) under Stage 4 for more information on the consultation and its relevance to the Stage 4 hearing sessions. The Inspector’s Stage 4 Matters, Issues and Questions (ID030) can also be found under Stage 4.

If you wish to participate at the Stage 4 hearing sessions the deadline for registering your interest to attend with the programme officer is 2 March 2018 – his contact details are at the bottom of this webpage. For those attending the Stage 4 sessions, a representation in response to the consultation will form a hearing statement for those sessions. The portal can be uploaded with both PDF documents and written text.

The Stage 4 hearing sessions will be held at The Civic, Hanson Street, Barnsley, S70 2HZ on the 17, 18, 19, 20, 24 & 25 April 2018. Evidence base documents submitted to the Inspector can be viewed and downloaded from the Examination Library and Evidence Base. In addition copies of the key submission documents can be viewed at the Barnsley Central Library in Wellington House, 36 Wellington Street, Barnsley S70 1WA during normal opening hours, Monday to Saturday. Our Local Plan Submission Statement sets out where and when the Local Plan and submitted documents are available.

The Inspector

Sarah Housden BA(Hons) MRTPI has been appointed to conduct the examination to determine whether our Local Plan is sound. All correspondence with the Inspector must be made through the Programme Officer.
