Financial support available to residents and businesses affected by flooding

Barnsley Council scheme

This scheme is available to people who have had flood water enter the living areas of their home or business premises, or where people cannot live in their home or trade from their business premises due to damage caused by the flood water.

We can provide an emergency payout of up to £250 for essential items, eg food, heating, clothing, shoes, etc. Once processed we'll make payments within 24 hours.

You can’t apply for this payment if only your garden or outbuilding flooded, unless there is some legitimate claim; eg a pram that was left outside was damaged.

Our staff are out in the affected areas supporting people to complete the form. If you've not been contacted please let us know on (01226) 773555 or visit our website for more information, so we can arrange to come and see you.

Council Tax and business rate relief

If you can’t live in your home due to damage caused by the flood water you may be able to claim Council Tax relief for up to three months.

If your business can’t trade due to damage caused by the flood water you may be able to claim business rate relief for up to three months.

Our staff are out in the affected areas to see which homes and businesses will be eligible for this support.

If you've not been contacted please let us know on (01226) 787787.

South Yorkshire Disaster Relief Appeal

The South Yorkshire Community Foundation (SYCF) appeal is a longer-term fund available to people who are seriously affected by the floods. The fund can help people with things such as cleaning up, emergency repairs, clothing, additional food and drink, heating costs and equipment, basic furniture and white goods, uninsured costs etc.

Phase one of the flood relief grants will be a set amount of £100, subject to available funds. However, in exceptional circumstances of hardship, higher grant awards may be considered in phase two of the process, subject to available funds.

We'll be working with Barnsley CVS on helping people apply for the fund.

You can find out more about this appeal on the SYCF website.
