04/09/20 Venue not following social distancing rules

Julia Burrows, Director of Public Health, said: “We're aware of posts on social media highlighting concerns of social distancing at the venue, and we're currently investigating this. The risk from Coronavirus (COVID-19) is still very real, and we expect all venues to act responsibly, not only for the safety of their visitors and staff but also for the wider community.

“We’re keen to support the Barnsley economy while keeping people safe, and will provide help and support to businesses who are finding it difficult to adapt to the COVID-19 secure guidelines. However, where there are continued breaches which put people at risk, we will not hesitate to take further action, and we will carry out unannounced spot checks where needed.

“We've set up a scheme to provide further support and guidance to venues across the borough. This will include a visit to all pubs, bars and clubs over the next ten weeks to understand the issues and challenges they've faced in reopening and how we can help to improve this.”
