MAYhem Street Circus Festival – 4 to 19 May

MAYhem is a street theatre and circus festival coming to a high street, market square or park near you over three successive weekends in May.

We’ve engaged street theatre company Yellow Bus events to bring their unique brand of entertainment to Barnsley.

You can catch the MAYhem festival at the following venues on these dates:

Cudworth Park on Saturday 4 May
Penistone Market Barn on Sunday 5 May
Hoyland Town Square on Saturday 11 May
Royston Park on Sunday 12 May
Goldthorpe’s Horse and Groom Square on Saturday 18 May
Wombwell High Street on Sunday 19 May

There will be a variety of exciting and fun acts. Most of them are from the Yorkshire area.

You can enjoy circus-style performances in our public venues and "walkabouts" by wandering performers.

Come and to enjoy some amazing street theatre and circus right on your doorstep. It features the likes of Felicity Footloose, Granny Tourismo and Dr Pandemonius Fish.

If you miss the show at one location, you can always catch up with the festival at another one.

The mini-festival will bring to the borough street performers who regularly appear at Covent Garden, Glastonbury Festival, Edinburgh Festival and major events around the world.

The entertainment, which is free and aimed at all generations, will run from 11am to 4pm each day.

Flavours Food Festival - Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 May

The Flavours Food Festival, The Glass Works’ annual foodie extravaganza, returns this May and is bigger and better than ever.

There'll be over 70 stalls of street food, local food and drink producers, crafts and homeware and live music and entertainment for all the family across the four days.

Food competition

As the Flavours Food Festival returns to Barnsley town centre, we want to celebrate Barnsley’s fantastic food offer to help you to make your month delicious.

If you visit (and purchase something) from the participating restaurants listed below between Wednesday 1 May and Friday 31 May, you could be in with a chance of winning one of four £50 Barnsley Gift Cards!

The participating eatery will hand you a small card following your purchase which will feature a QR code. All you need to do is scan it and complete a short survey to enter the competition.

Prize winners will be chosen at random and notified if successful on Monday 3 June 2024.
