Barnsley 10k coming this June!

It's time to lace up your running shoes - we're delighted to announce the Barnsley 10k will be taking place on Sunday 30 June 2024!

The race will begin in The Glass Works square at 9am and take participants through Barnsley town centre, Wilthorpe and Redbrook before looping back around at the Claycliffe road area before arriving back in The Glass Works square for a sprint finish.

We only have 1,000 places available but hope to increase the capacity in future. Entries will open at 5pm on Friday 23 February and close at 7pm on Sunday 16 June or when all entries have been sold by our event partner Racebest, who are managing this for us.

An information pack will be sent to participants ahead of race day, who will also receive a commemorative t-shirt after finishing the race.

Any residents and businesses who will be impacted by the race will be contacted with further information in due course.

Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: "As the hometown of Olympians Dorothy Hyman and John Mayock, Barnsley has a rich history when it comes to running.

"The first Barnsley Marathon took place 50 years ago in 1974 and we still have a thriving running scene in the borough thanks to the many groups and clubs that organise events and activities for competition and leisure. We're thrilled to be adding our own with the Barnsley 10k in the town centre this summer.

“I'm sure it will be a fantastic day and hopefully it will become a permanent fixture in our events calendar.

“Whether you're taking on the race or coming along to cheer someone on, there is plenty to explore and enjoy across the town centre throughout the day with something for everyone.

“We have a range of independent and big-name cafes, bars and restaurants, including Falco Lounge, The Botanist, and Salt House, if you're after a bite to eat or a drink.”
