Article: Planning consultation Article Body When planning applications are submitted there is a comprehensive system in place that ensures proposals are publicised in order to invite comments from the local community. After the planning application has been made, the council will post notices near to the site and write letters to those who live along the boundaries of the site, relevant stakeholders and interest groups, statutory and non statutory consultees inviting comments on the application. Larger developments will also be advertised in a local newspaper with possible exhibitions in municipal buildings. The Policy Development Team also prepare and consult on planning and transportation policy including the Local Development Framework, the Local Transport Plan, supplementary planning documents and policies relating to design, conservation and sustainable development. Links to any current consultations are listed at teh bottom of the page. View planning proposals The details of the proposals, including architects' drawings and models, will be available for inspection at Barnsley Connects, The Civic, between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Fridays. The Civic is located along Eldon Street, Barnsley Town Centre. All planning applications and supporting information can be viewed at online at any time of the day. Statutory and non statutory consultees Statutory consultees are organisations and bodies, defined by statute, who must be consulted on relevant planning applications. Key organisations (in terms of impact and volume of consultations) include: Environment Agency, Natural England, English Heritage and the Highways Agency. Other bodies include local highway and local planning authorities (in relation to some forms of development in adjoining areas) and organisations with very specific interests, such as the Theatres Trust. It may be useful for developers to contact these bodies prior to submitting an application for general advice and gudiance. Non-statutory consultees are organisations and bodies, identified in national planning policy, who should be consulted on relevant planning applications. These include some bodies who are also statutory consultees (for example English Heritage and English Nature) and others that are not, such as the Police Architectural Liaison Officers. Equal opportunity to comment The council is committed to involving everyone in the borough in the planning process. Those groups who may face barriers to the planning service, such as ethnic minorities, the elderly and people with disabilities, may have difficulty in visiting the Civic. In such circumstances we may be able to arrange to lend a copy of the plans or visit the person at home. We will assist you to enable your voice to be heard. If this is the case for you then please contact the planning department as soon as possible. The telephone number for the Development Management department is (01226) 772593.
