Welcome to the first Barnsley Book Festival, taking place from Friday 2 February to Saturday 23 March 2024.

We’re bringing a host of brilliant authors, poets, writers, artists and speakers to Barnsley to celebrate our shared love for reading. We’ll be exploring themes ranging from politics, gaming, local history and neurodiversity, to romance, adventure and more.

We’re excited to host internationally known authors from Barnsley, such as Andrew McMillan and Milly Johnson, as well as poetry powerhouses like Matt Abbott and Toria Garbutt. We’re also looking forward to having brand new works from young writers. We'll also be partying with Boomchikkaboom and getting creative with artists, including James Brunt and illustrator Liz Million.

As part of the festival we’re showcasing many artists who have been commissioned to create new work. We’ll also have a host of family activities for you to get involved in. We think there's something for everyone.

We’re delighted to be able to bring this festival to Barnsley. Its been supported using public funding from Arts Council England as part of Barnsley Libraries’ National Portfolio Organisation activity.

We know that many of the events will be popular, so please book in advance on our library events page so you don't miss out.
