Warning about scam phone calls claiming to be from our adult social care team

We've been made aware that some residents in Barnsley have received phone calls claiming to be from our adult social care team. These callers are asking for financial or personal information. Don't share any sensitive information unless you're absolutely certain the caller is from Barnsley Council.

Stay alert and stay safe:

Always verify the caller's identity by asking for their name, department and a number to call back on.
If you're unsure about the caller's identity, hang up and call back on an official council number.
Never share bank details, National Insurance numbers or passwords with unexpected callers.

Our teams will never pressure you into giving financial details over the phone.

If you receive a suspicious call, report it to us immediately. You should also report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or on the Action Fraud website.
