Adult Skills and Community Learning
This course is suitable for learners who want:
- a formal functional English qualification
- to become more confident with reading, writing and discussion skills
For learners for whom English is their second language, our English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) courses may also be suitable.
Length of course
The course varies in length, but most learners take 36 weeks to complete one level. You'll attend once a week for two hours.
Course content
The course will help you improve your English skills. It will be pitched at a level to suit your individual ability.
Topics may include:
- developing discussion and presentation skills
- spelling
- using punctuation effectively
- writing for different purposes
- proof reading and correcting own writing

Functional English courses are free for eligible learners.
