Governor training and development

Governor development opportunities

Training courses are available to all Governors throughout the academic year and include useful content to help them to develop in their role.  Sessions have also been developed to help keep Governors up to date with relevant legislative requirements.

The programme has been totally refreshed this year to include development opportunities for:

  • newly appointment Governors,
  • well-established Governors with the potential to increase their influence on, and leadership of, the Governing Body,
  • Leading Governors, who will also find helpful courses in relation to chairing meetings.

The Workshops are designed to address the knowledge, skills and behaviours identified in the DfE publications, “A Competency Framework for Governance” and the “Clerking Competence Framework”.  They draw heavily from the January 2017 Governance Handbook, current DfE guidance and NCTL resources.

To book on a training course please contact Governor Services.  If you're a Governor you can ask your school to arrange the course booking for you.

A new Personal Online Development (POD) System will be launched towards the end of September 2018, which means that in future you will be able to book your training directly online, and log any queries.
