Early years pupil premium
The early years pupil premium is extra funding from the government for early years settings to help support your child's education. Through the grant your child will benefit from extra resources and equipment suited to their needs, enjoy a range of new play, learning and activities, and be prepared for starting school.
Eligibility
The early years pupil premium is available for children who are:
- aged nine months to two years old
- aged three or four years old and get 15 hours free childcare
For your early years education provider to be eligible to receive the premium, you must be also be getting one of the following:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Child Tax Credit (providing you're not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
Your child may also be eligible for the early years pupil premium if they:
- have been looked after by the council in care for at least one day
- have been adopted from care
- have left care through special guardianship
- is subject to a child arrangement order
How to apply
Early years providers are responsible for identifying children who are eligible for the premium. They should speak to parents to find out who's eligible so the maximum amount of funding can reach Barnsley providers.
If your child's eligible
If your child qualifies for the premium, this will be paid directly to your child's school or childcare provider.
