Young women across Barnsley empowered at International Women’s Day event
Nearly 100 young women from secondary schools across Barnsley came together on 6 March 2026 at Base 71 to mark International Women’s Day with a full‑day event focused on inspiration, aspiration and opportunity.
The event was organised by Barnsley Council’s BYouth Young People’s Service, working closely with the Great Childhoods Ambition team and a range of valued local partners. It aimed to create a supportive space where young women could connect with one another, build confidence and explore future pathways.
Throughout the day, participants took part in a series of interactive workshops designed to broaden horizons and encourage ambition. Sessions focused on physical activity and wellbeing, developing resilience, and exploring careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Each workshop was carefully designed to help young women recognise their strengths and see themselves as future leaders, innovators and change‑makers within their communities.
The event was made possible thanks to the dedication and collaboration of all those involved in its delivery. Organisers also paid tribute to the young women who attended, praising their energy, curiosity and ambition throughout the day.
By investing in opportunities like this, Barnsley continues to support a brighter, more confident future for the next generation of young women.
