Into Games workshops for schools

Games Console Controller

Inspiring careers in gaming: free workshops for years 7 to 9.

Barnsley secondary schools can access one‑hour Into Games careers workshops, fully funded by the Great Childhoods Ambition.

Delivered by local video‑game professionals from studios such as Sumo and Cast Iron Games, these paper‑based sessions are designed for years 7 to 9 and require no ICT facilities.

Each workshop includes a career talk, a 50‑page game‑development workbook, and guidance on next steps such as the BAFTA Young Game Designer competition. Workshops run mainly in March, with limited availability in November.

By the end of the session, students gain an understanding of how games are made, how school subjects link to industry roles, and what future pathways look like - while also creating their own game concept and working in teams.

Feedback from the sessions has been extremely positive, with students leaving inspired and eager for more.
