Primary Poetry Slam

In 2025 the Great Childhoods Ambition partnered with the Rotary Club of Barnsley, Cawthorne Primary School and Fusion (Barnsley Cultural Education Partnership) to deliver the first ever Primary Poetry Slam - a vibrant celebration of creativity, self‑expression and community spirit.  

The event brought together ten primary schools and showcased the talent of 55 young poets and performers, supported by an audience of more than 150 parents, carers and school staff, and judged by an expert panel.

Families shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, noting how the experience boosted children’s confidence, particularly in public speaking and expressing themselves, while also sparking new interest in the arts. Many highlighted how the event encouraged teamwork, helped pupils form new friendships, and gave them a strong sense of pride as they represented their schools. The event proved to be an enriching and empowering experience for everyone involved.
