STEM workshops for primary schools

Pupils Taking Part In STEM Workshop

Fully funded science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) workshops for Barnsley primary schools.

As part of the Great Childhoods Ambition, Barnsley primary schools can access fully funded STEM workshops during the 2025/26 academic year, giving every school the opportunity to offer high‑quality enrichment experiences without any cost to the school.

What the STEM workshop offer includes

The STEM workshops provide exciting, practical science experiences that link directly to curriculum learning and help bring classroom topics to life. Sessions are designed to be interactive and engaging, encouraging pupils to explore scientific ideas through hands‑on activities that build confidence and enthusiasm for learning.

Workshops are delivered by Amazelab, a specialist provider experienced in working with primary schools. Schools that have already taken part have shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, describing the sessions as “fantastic,” “carefully planned,” and “excellently organised,” with pupils leaving school feeling inspired and excited about science.

Eligible schools

The STEM workshop offer is available to every Barnsley primary school. Schools that have not yet received a workshop will be prioritised to ensure fair access across the borough, while schools that have already taken part may be offered further opportunities where interest has been expressed.

Schools can choose year groups that best suit their curriculum and pupils, making it easy to integrate the workshops into existing learning plans.

How to arrange a workshop

If you're interested in receiving a workshop, fill in the STEM workshop expression of interest form and Amazelab will contact you to arrange delivery of the session.

Feedback from schools about the workshops

Cawthorne Primary School said:

"The workshop was excellent from start to finish. All the children were excited, enthused and engaged in the hands on activities. It brought a difficult topic to teach to life and made the children want to carry on learning. We would love more workshops for different year groups."

The Hill Primary Academy said:

"All children were fully engaged and actively participating throughout. The workshop generated real excitement about science, with several pupils expressing interest in becoming future scientists. Feedback from children was extremely positive and the experience was immersive, inclusive and inspiring for all."
