Services
Armed forces
The armed forces community includes currently serving personnel, veterans, volunteers and regular reservists.
It also includes people who care for, depend on, or are close family members of these groups of people. The cadets and cadet force adult volunteers are also part of our armed forces community.
We've pledged to make sure that our armed forces community is supported in Barnsley. To do so, we've signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant. We've also achieved the Gold Award for the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

Remembrance Sunday information – Sunday 9 November
Road closures
The following road closures will be in place on Sunday 9 November for our Remembrance Sunday service and parade:
7am to 1:30pm

Wreath laying
If you'd like to lay a wreath during the Remembrance Day service, please register with the Mayor’s Office in advance, no later than Wednesday 5 November.
You can do so by emailing mayorsoffice@barnsley.gov.uk, calling 01226 773804, or by visiting the Town Hall reception and completing a registration form. Registering means we can better coordinate the event. For anyone not registered, there will be an opportunity to lay wreaths at the end of the service.
Armistice Day information – Tuesday 11 November
Road closures
The following road closures will be in place on Tuesday 11 November for our Armistice Day service:
10:20am to 12pm
- Church Street
- St Mary’s Gate
- Sadler Gate
- Royal Street
- Top of Regent Street (traffic will be diverted along Eastgate)
Wreath laying
The service will include wreath laying by local college students, school children, and nursery children.
If you're a school or nursery and wish to attend and take part by laying artwork or wreaths, please register with the Mayor’s Office in advance.
