The indices of multiple deprivation (IMD) is a way of measuring deprivation across England and monitoring the gap between the most deprived areas. It's published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The IMD combines data from seven areas to show an overall measure:

  • employment
  • education, skills and training
  • health and disability
  • barriers to housing and services
  • crime
  • living environment
