Libraries

Why volunteer?

There are many ways you can volunteer your time to support your local library.

Volunteering will help you gain confidence, meet new people, boost your CV and learn new skills. You'll feel part of our library team; helping others to get the most from their lives. We'll support you during your time with us and help you to settle in to your role.

Volunteer with us

You can join us to volunteer in a variety of different roles. Some roles work best if you can offer a regular weekly commitment, while others are available as a one-off or short term placement.

Volunteers help us to run additional activities in libraries. It could be our conversation cafe, code club, readers groups, Lego club or craft sessions for children and adults. We're also looking for people who'll work in the community as library champions.

You can see our volunteer vacancies on the Barnsley CVS website, where you can find out more about the roles we have on offer.

If there's not a vacancy that suits you at this time, we'd still be happy to talk with you to find a suitable role.

If you're ready to register your interest, you can apply to become a volunteer.

Placements for young people

Duke of Edinburgh(DofE) placement

We can support young people to undertake the volunteering section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. If you're interested, you'll need to apply to become a volunteer. Tell us you're looking for a DofE placement, we'll then be in touch to make arrangements with you where possible.
