Bookable spaces

Use of promotional spaces will normally be considered on a first come first served basis providing your promotion/event abides by our conditions of use and doesn't conflict with our core values and policies.

Barnsley town centre has static outdoor pitches starting from 4m x 4m in size or you can apply for a flexible roaming permit to move around and reach a wider audience.

The principle towns of Cudworth, Goldthorpe, Hoyland, Penistone, Royston and Wombwell generally offer outdoor pitches of 3m x 3m. All centres offer the option to book flexible roaming permits.

Fees

Charity and voluntary sector organisations

Charities and voluntary sector organisations can book a static promotional pitch for a charitable event. Hire fees for pitches and flexible roaming permits still apply, but we may be able to offer the space at a reduced rate. Please contact us before submitting your booking request.

There's no charge for any organisation or person wanting to book promotional space for a charitable street collection through bucket fundraising.

You must have a charitable street collections licence for the time of your promotional event. You'll need to have booked your promotional event space with us before applying for this licence. If your booking is accepted, this will be on a provisional basis until we've received confirmation you've been granted a charitable street collections licence.

If your licence is declined, your promotional event space will be cancelled.

Food and drink promotions

For food and drink promotions, you're only allowed to offer sample size food and drinks.

Samples of alcohol are not permitted. If your promotion involves advertising alcohol, this will be referred to our Public Health team.

Booking restrictions

We're unable to accept bookings for promotions which conflict with our core values and policies. For this reason, bookings for space to promote the following are not permitted:

• gambling
• tobacco
• vaping
• other smoking related products
• any product of a harmful, undesirable, offensive and objectionable nature

Promotional event spaces also aren't bookable for:

• public assemblies (including demonstrations); you should contact South Yorkshire Police for advice
• political-related events
• religious instruction

The above restrictions do not impede your right to freedom of speech.

Using our spaces

When planning to use one of our spaces, you should think about the following:

• Outdoor promotional event pitches are uncovered, so think about the weather.
• The setting up of a promotional event is your responsibility.
• We don't provide equipment such as gazebo's, tables or chairs so you'll have to provide these yourself.
• There is no power source. 
• Petrol generators are not allowed. Details of any other type of generator, such as a silent diesel generator must be submitted for approval at the booking stage.

Vehicle use

• Being in and around main high streets, some of our sites aren't accessible to vehicles. They may also have restrictions on when you can come and go.
• Vehicles which have been given permission to remain on site must form part of the promotion. The vehicle must be fully branded.
• Branded vehicles given permission to remain on site in Barnsley town centre within the pedestrianised core retail of the high street must be in position by 9:30am and will not be able to move until 4:30pm. This is to adhere with a traffic regulation order. Exceptions will apply when instructed to move by the police or council.
• Branded vehicles given permission to remain on site at Wombwell must be in place by 10am and will not be able to move until 3pm, to adhere with a traffic regulation order. Exceptions apply when instructed to move by the police or council.
