Pathways to Work - warehouse worker

Wage subsidy scheme

Get up to 12 weeks of fully funded wages when you hire a young person.

If you run a small business in Barnsley with less than 100 employees, you may be able to receive up to 12 weeks of wages paid for when you hire a young person aged 16 to 30 through Pathways to Work. This is a great way to support homegrown talent and give a young person the chance to build real skills and experience.

Eligibility

Your business is eligible for the scheme if you:

  • are based in Barnsley (or have a site in South Yorkshire)
  • can offer a new role lasting more than six months
  • can provide full time or part time hours (16 to 35 hours per week)
  • are a registered business or charity
  • have fewer than 100 employees
  • can offer a placement for a Pathways to Work participant, with the option to provide up to five placements per organisation

The young person you hire must also be part of the Pathways to Work programme, meaning they’ll receive ongoing support from our employment specialists.

Why it’s great for your business

As part of this offer you'll benefit from:

  • up to 12 weeks of wages funded at National Minimum Wage (16 to 35 hours per week), funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA)
  • dedicated support for your new employee from the Pathways to Work team to help them settle in and succeed
  • support for your business through Be Well @ Work, helping you keep your team healthy and productive
  • low risk, high reward: extra capacity for your team while helping to develop Barnsley’s future workforce

How to apply

You can apply for funded wages for a young employee by filling in our online form below.

In the form you'll need to provide details about your business, the role you can offer, and upload a copy of the job description and your employer liability insurance.
