Temporary closures at some of our household waste recycling centres
We're carrying out a programme of planned drainage improvement works at a number of our household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) over the coming months to help protect the environment and improve site safety.
The works will require temporary closures at some sites while new drainage systems are installed.
Sites with planned closures
The following sites have planned full closures. Ahead of each closure, there will be a three-day transition period where some containers are removed from the site in preparation for the works.
Recycling centre | Location | Pre-closure period | Full closure period |
|---|---|---|---|
Smithies | Smithies Lane | Monday 3 to Wednesday 5 August Materials not accepted in this period: fridges, tv’s, household batteries, lead acid batteries, engine oil, cooking oils, textiles, media, mixed glass, fluorescent tubes, ink cartridges, coffee pods, gas bottles, paint, vapes, plastics and cans. | Thursday 6 August until the end of September 2026 |
Worsborough | West Street | To be confirmed | The end of September to mid-December 2026 |
Goldthorpe | Nicholas Lane | To be confirmed | Mid-January to early March 2027 |
Exact closure and reopening dates will be confirmed and published once the programme timetable has been finalised.
During a closure
While one of our recycling centres are closed, you can continue to use any of our other household waste recycling centres. Recycling centres in Doncaster may also be used where appropriate. Before travelling, please check the opening times and accepted materials for your chosen site.
If you can't get to another site, you could consider storing any non-urgent items safely until your local site reopens or making use of our bulky waste collection service if your items are too big to put in your bin and are on our standard list of items we can collect.
All household bin waste and recycling collections will continue as normal throughout the works.
Always dispose of your waste responsibly.
