We’ve launched Barnsley RentSmart, our new scheme supporting landlords and tenants, and are inviting Barnsley landlords to come along to one of our drop-in sessions to find out more.
Barnsley RentSmart supports landlords to have the best standards, and those registered on the scheme will be able to achieve a star rating, advertise their properties for free, and have access to advice and support, discounted licensing fees, interest-free loans for upgrades around energy efficiency measures, and more.
For tenants, Barnsley RentSmart offers the information they need to know when renting, such as tenancy rights and responsibilities. Tenants will receive an accommodation checklist when they’re looking for a new property as well as a tenancy checklist outlining everything they need before the tenancy begins.
If you’re a landlord, we’re running a series of drop-in sessions throughout September and October, where you can come along and find out more about the scheme:
- Wednesday 6 September, Library @ The Lightbox, 5pm to 6.30pm
- Thursday 14 September, Goldthorpe Library, 5pm to 6.30pm
- Monday 18 September, Cudworth Library, 5pm to 6.30pm
- Thursday 28 September, Penistone Library, 5pm to 6.30pm
- Tuesday 17 October, Mapplewell Library, 5pm to 6.30pm

Cllr Margaret Sheard, Cabinet Support Member for Communities, said: “Barnsley RentSmart is our new landlord accreditation scheme, offering landlords with Barnsley properties help and support in the private renting sector. Through the scheme we’re not only supporting landlords, but also prospective tenants by promoting properties that are in good physical condition, enforcing tenancy management standards, and promoting good rental practices. If you’re a landlord with a rental property in Barnsley, I really encourage you to call into one of our drop-in sessions to find out more about how the scheme can benefit you.”
