Have your say on Historic Streets in Barnsley

People are invited to an important consultation event where they will have their say on the future of some of Barnsley’s historic town centre streets.

The consultation takes place on Saturday, 17 February, between 10am and 2pm, in the Cooper Gallery Barnsley, and will focus on Eldon Street, Regent Street, Market Hill, and Church Street.

The event will find out what people think of the areas now, what makes them special, what needs to be protected, and what can be improved as part of this process.

It’s taking place for a new conservation appraisal and management plan commissioned by Barnsley Council and will set the priorities for the areas for the future.

The event is open to the public, and people are invited to drop in at any time.

For those who can’t attend an online survey will be available on the Barnsley Museums website from Friday, 9 February.

Cllr Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Our Town Centre is thriving, and it is important that we preserve its history as well as invest in its future. There are areas of huge historical importance, and these consultation events are a great way of capturing people’s opinions of how they are preserved and protected, shaping the area for the future.”
