Help shape our Family Hubs and Start for Life offer by sharing your views

A new consultation on the proposals for our Barnsley Family Hubs and Start for Life offer is now open.

In February 2023, the government formally announced that Barnsley was one of the local authorities to be awarded grant funding of £3.4 million up to March 2025 to take part in the Family Hubs and Start for Life programme.

Family Hubs and Start for Life services offer information, help and support to families from conception until age 19, or 25 for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. They bring together staff working across a range of services including the council, health, education, voluntary and community organisations to offer families the right help, in the right place, at the right time.

As part of the development of our Family Hubs in Barnsley, we’re asking for your views on how we propose to deliver Family Hubs services in our communities. The proposed model will provide more services and support for families across Barnsley, with families being able to access support face-to-face in a Family Hub, in the community or by going online.

The consultation is open for you to provide your views until Saturday 23 September at 5pm. Comments and feedback received in the consultation will be used to inform our Family Hubs delivery plan moving forward.

Cllr Trevor Cave, cabinet spokesperson for Children’s Services, said: “Our Barnsley Family Hubs will offer a community of support to every family across Barnsley helping them to thrive and grow while living healthy and happy lives.

“It’s important that we hear people’s views in Barnsley on our proposed Family Hub models to help shape our delivery of services to best meet the needs of our communities, and I strongly encourage everyone to take a look at our proposals and share your suggestions, thoughts and ideas.”

You can find out more about Family Hubs and our proposals in our consultation document, and comments can be provided using our online survey.

Paper copies of the consultation document are also available to view at your nearest family centre, I Know I Can Centre or Library.

If you can’t complete the online form, you can also submit your comments by emailing infofis@barnsley.gov.uk or writing to Barnsley Council, Families Information Service, PO BOX 634, Barnsley, S70 9GG. Please only use one method of reply to avoid duplication.

Comments must be received by 5pm on Saturday 23 September 2023.
