New Carbon Literacy Course and dates for 2024 launched by Positive Climate Partnership

Following the success of the Carbon Literacy Courses in 2023, our Positive Climate Partnership has launched new dates for 2024 alongside a new introductory course for businesses across Barnsley.

The new introductory workshop provides a brief overview on the Climate Crisis, Carbon Footprint, how businesses can create positive change, and signposts to further support and guidance for attendees, with the first session taking place in April.

This course is more suited to those who are at the very start of their net zero journeys and would like to know more about what action they can take to be more sustainable.

The Carbon Literacy Project Accredited Course is tailored to support businesses on their net zero journey by delving deeper into understanding Carbon Literacy from both an individual and organisational point of view.

Featuring case studies of organisations that are already taking action on climate change, this course is designed to equip businesses with the knowledge they need to make impactful changes to the way they operate, to support the borough’s ambitions of becoming Net Zero Carbon and a more sustainable community by 2045.

Key highlights of the Carbon Literacy Training Course include:

  • In-Depth Understanding: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the causes and impacts of climate change, enabling them to make informed decisions and take meaningful action.
  • Carbon Footprints: The course explores the concept of carbon footprints, helping individuals and businesses calculate their own and develop strategies for reduction.
  • Taking Action: Learn how every individual and business can make a positive impact on our environment and why it's essential for everyone to get involved.
  • Real-Life Success Stories: The course will feature case studies of organisations that have already embarked on their net-zero journey, providing valuable insights and inspiration.
  • Support and Strategy: Participants will discover how businesses can receive support to develop their own net-zero strategy, ensuring that progress is achievable and sustainable.

Councillor Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said:

“Following on from a very successful year for our Positive Climate Partnership, it’s great to see the return of our already popular Carbon Literacy courses as well as the expansion to offer the introductory workshop.

“Both courses offer a great introduction to net zero for businesses and the wider community in Barnsley by offering guidance and awareness on how we can all be more sustainable.

“It’s important that we take action both individually and collectively as we strive to meet our goal of becoming a net zero borough by 2045 and these courses offer the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

Both courses are delivered in partnership with ITS and Barnsley College, with the first introductory course taking place on 23 April between 9:30am and 11:00am at the ITS offices in Barnsley town centre.

The introductory workshop is priced at £50 per person while the Carbon Literacy Accredited course is £100 per person, with an optional additional certification cost of between £10 and £30 dependent on the size of the organisation.
