New video launched to celebrate our Barnsley Older People Physical Activity Alliance

Message from Age UK Barnsley

The Barnsley Older People Physical Activity Alliance (BOPPAA) has launched a new video to celebrate their role in promoting physical activity for older residents.

The Alliance’s innovative approach to bringing fun, social activities to our communities is helping to encourage more people to get fit and active in later life.

Funded by Barnsley Council and led by Age UK Barnsley, BOPPAA runs a whole host of sessions to help you get moving, from aerobics to Zumba and everything in between.

Our new video helps to capture the variety of what’s on offer and the strong partnerships that make BOPPAA possible, which includes our work with the NHS, charities and physical activity providers.

You can watch the video on Age UK Barnsley’s YouTube channel, which shows the huge difference the programme of events is making to people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Find out what’s happening in your local area on BOPPAA’s online directory or call 01226 776820 if you have any questions or need a little more information.

Councillor Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “In Barnsley, we’re proud to do things differently to help our communities enjoy happier, healthier and longer lives. I’m delighted to see the impact BOPPAA is having in our borough, helping older people enjoy the benefits of moving more no matter where they live.

“Whether you’re looking to make a splash at aqua aerobics or fall in love with a walking version of your favourite sport, BOPPAA offers fun, social ways to stay active as you get older. If you haven’t already, try out one of their many sessions this winter.”

Debby Bunn, Chief Executive of Age UK Barnsley, said: “Age UK Barnsley is so proud to be the lead organisation for BOPPAA and we’re delighted to be able to celebrate the huge successes that the Alliance is having in our communities.

“Whether it is improving your strength, balance and stability, reducing your risk of falls or falling back in love with a sport you enjoyed in your younger days, BOPPAA truly has something for everyone.

“Improving physical and mental health and wellbeing – and having a great time while doing so – is an integral part of our collective mission of making Barnsley the best possible place to grow older.”
