Worsbrough Library will be closing its doors from Wednesday 29 November 2023, to allow for full refurbishment works to take place and is likely to stay closed until March 2024.

The refurbishment will include upgrades to the heating system, lighting, and digital infrastructure to make the building more sustainable and future-proof. It will also create a modern and flexible space for the local community including an enhanced children’s area.

During the closure, Barnsley Libraries will be accepting extra people to the Home Library Service for those who need it temporarily and cannot get to any other library in the area. The closest alternative library is the Library @ the Lightbox in the town centre.

Cllr Wendy Cain, Cabinet Spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, said: “It’s very exciting news for residents in Worsbrough as their local library is set to be transformed into a modern, welcoming and more sustainable space.

“The significant updates planned for Worsbrough Library will undoubtedly benefit local communities and we cannot wait for you to see it for yourselves next year.”

The Worsbrough Library refurbishment is part-funded by £143,034 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund via the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and is part of Barnsley Council’s Libraries Refurbishment Programme.
