Updated supplementary planning documents adopted at Full Council following consultations

Updates to two of our Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) relating to the Local Plan were successfully adopted at Full Council on Thursday 28 March 2024 following a public consultation last year.

The Local Plan, adopted in January 2019, contains policies to be considered when reviewing planning applications. The SPDs contain further advice and explain how these policies will be applied.

The first SPD adopted covers Biodiversity and Geodiversity, while the other looks at House Extensions and Other Domestic Alterations.

Consultations were held last year; the comments received were taken into consideration and helped to shape the adopted documents.

Matt O'Neill, Executive Director for Growth and Sustainability, said: "We're grateful to everyone who came forward and provided feedback on the Supplementary Planning Documents during our consultation last summer.

"We've taken the comments on board and amended the SPDs to clarify some issues within them and improve their implementation to make sure the Local Plan achieves its overall aims and objectives."

The SPDs and other supporting documents are available for inspection online at barnsley.gov.uk/supplementaryplanningdocuments or as paper copies at Library @ the Lightbox and all branch libraries across the borough during normal opening hours.
