Young market traders from Barnsley heading to the Young Traders Market regional finals

The Young Traders Market regional final will take place on Saturday 29 July at Leeds Kirkgate Market, seeing young traders from all over Yorkshire and the Humber compete.

Heading to the regional finals are a number of young traders aged 16 to 30 from Barnsley, who’ve been chosen in local heats to attend the event at Leeds in July.

This includes three young traders who were selected at a local event held at Hoyland Market on Saturday 17 June. The traders, judged by The Worshipful the Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor James Michael Stowe and local trader Keith Batty are:

  • Imogen Johnson, winner of the local event, who runs the Something Home Related stall selling lip balms, room scents, and personal care products
  • Katy Slatter, highly commended, who runs the Candelit Creation stall selling wax melts, soap sponges, wax burners and more
  • Emily Kitchen, highly commended, who runs the Em & J’s stall selling wax melts.

If successful at the upcoming regional finals, they’ll have the opportunity to trade at the NMTF’s Young Traders Market final which will be held in Stratford-upon-Avon on the Waterside over the August bank holiday weekend.

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said; “A huge well done and good luck to the young traders who are on their way to the regional finals in Leeds. It’s great to see so many young people in Barnsley interested in starting up a small business and becoming market traders. I’d encourage any young person in Barnsley who’s interested in market trading to give it a go and get involved with our Up and Coming Markets which are held once a month.”

Are you aged 16 to 30 and interested in starting-up or developing a small business? The Up and Coming Markets are held on the third Saturday of every month, travelling to each district market. It’s free for young traders to stand - dates and locations can be found under the District Markets section of our webpage.

The next Up and Coming Market will be held on Saturday 19 August at Penistone Market, where there’ll be live music and free face painting.
